Fun in the Sun

One of our Sundays was spent in Elat in the very south of Israel, right on the Gulf of Aquaba of the Red Sea. That's probably more geography than you care to know, but I had to prove that I learned something in my classes over there!

Snorkeling was awesome! After months of being hot and sweaty, it sure was nice to be in a bathing suit. And the fishies made it even more exciting! One of the funniest things was swimming next to people and covering the top of their snorkel. They would start panicking and come up all confused. It's kind of a cruel trick, but it was just too funny.

Tourists on an educational experience...?

I guess this place is called "Mini Las Vegas" though it really didn't feel like Vegas. For instance, there was a beach! And the fam wasn't here. But it was lots of fun!

We went to dinner at the cow kibbutz that we ate at on our way to and from Egypt, and it was delicious again. The drive back was about 4 hours and it was beautiful. We drove right along the Dead Sea for a long time and I stared out the window at the reflection of the full moon on the water, which is one of my very favorite sights. Some parts of the drive looked a lot like Hawaii with the cliffs along the sea and it was interesting to think about the difference between the two places. I loved them both and both have had a huge impact on me but Hawaii was definitely more chill and carefree and there was less chance of getting blown up. Jerusalem was a very intense experience, like trying to drink from a fire hose. It was the most intense social, spiritual, political or academic experience I've ever had and that's exactly what made it so wonderful.
